Things will be changing around here. I may even "abondon" this journal and start a new one, mostly because of the name. I know, silly reason, but as I can't afford a rename token and don't want to pester anyone to get one for me, I'll probably start a new spirituality journal (or, more likely, a community so I don't have to do the sign-out thing anymore). Cuz yeah, I'm considering changing my name again; another of Nichneven's names (or if you rather, the name of an astoundingly similar Goddess) is Satia (probably pronounced "SAY-shah" as in "insatiable," but I think "SAH-tya" is prettier :P). I'm not entirely fond of that spelling, but I decided I liked Satya. Turns out, Satya is a Sanskrit word that loosely translates to "truth" or "correct." Double meaning, and I likes.

So yeah, point being, watch here and my main journal for further announcements regarding the fate of this particular journal and its subject matter.

I think I've decided that I'm actually unhappy with my altar :/ I think it's just too cluttered for my OCD-ish tastes :P It's probably the abundance of more shrine-esque pieces on it that's bugging me, my representations of An Mhor Rioghain, Aslan, Barn Owl, and now Blodeuwedd. Problem is though, I don't really have the space in my home to move anything anywhere. I'd love to be able to construct mini-shrines to all of them, but I can't.

Of course, An Mhor Rioghain's would be along a Western wall, and Blodeuwedd's on an Eastern one. Aslan could go damn near anywhere (eh, maybe not North so much), and Barn Owl would have to be either East or West as well (seeing as how it's a bird (Air, East) with Otherworld (spirituality, West) associations). Right now, I've got Barn Owl and An Mhor Rioghain on the Western side, Blodeuwedd and Aslan in the East. But there again, it puts Blodeuwedd on the "God" side of the altar, and Her animal association is Owl ("blodeuwedd" is actually Welsh for "owl"). Ugh. I need more space for these things.

General info on my namesake from various sourcesCollapse )

Also, according to the calculator on this page (assuming I used it correctly), Her (adjusted) feast day falls on Thanksgiving this year. I'ma find some way to honor Her then, methinks. M'also going to try and do something on the unadjusted date.

Items needed for ritual tomorrow:

~ Pumpkin
~ Goblet
~ Athame (? - am bringing just in case)
~ Scorpio/ritual Necklace
~ Warm Sketchers boots
~ Hoodie (plan is for outdoors, weather premitting)
~ Trenchcoat
~ Robe & belt (in case held indoors due to weather. Maybe wear robe over trench if outdoors?)
~ Mask (still need to decide if it's done or if I need to play with it more)
~ Food to share (what though, I have no idea. Corn bread maybe?)

I think that's about it. I just wanted to get it all down somewhere so I wouldn't forget.

Mask supplies checklist:
[X] Paper plates for main mask form
[X] Elastic string for holding it on my head
[X] Metal feather charms and string to attach them
[X] Paint, glitter, and beads for decoration/colorization
[X] Paintbrush
[X] Palette
[X] Scissors
[X] Garbage bag to protect table

It's not going to be perfect and pretty like I envisioned, especially since I don't have any real or faux feathers to put on it *sighs* Oh well. This'll have to do.

And damn crafty websites and such for never having directions for barn owl masks. They're almost all horned owls, and while those are the kind most easily recognized as owls, it still pisses me off.

Now I just need my son to fall asleep, and I can get to work...

Notes for Morrigan shrine creation...

~ should face West
~ black cloth
~ items:
~ Dark Warrior Spike (from Bud K)
~ black wood incense holder (have to ask husband about using that)
   ~ black feathers
~ scrying tool (ball or black mirror)
~ offering bowl (black or red)
   ~ pomegranate candle
~ raven candle holder (I saw it at Marshall's with their Halloween stuff) EDIT: Never saw it again after the first day *sad face*
   ~ pomegranate seed necklace

I'd also love to find a Morrigan statue I like...

I haven't entirely decided if owl stuff would be appropriate to put here. Do owls and crows/ravens fight in the wild (probably not, since owls are nocturnal...)? I doubt the Morrigan would be upset by owl present on Her shrine, since they are soul-messengers and in-tune with the Otherworld. OK, so owls might not be inappropriate, but I guess what I actually haven't decided is whether I am going to include them in this shrine.

According to this page, it's specificallythe barn owl that's called Cailleach-oidhche gheal, "white old woman of the night." It was most certainly a barn owl I saw in my scrying, hence why I used images of a barn owl for my new layout and icon here.
